Rajesh Tope, the Health Minister of Maharashtra, recently speaking to the media said that each ward in Mumbai will have five to 10 ambulances. He further asked the citizens to not pay exorbitant prices for private services.
Tope said that the government ambulances will be coordinated by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Cooperation (BMC) helpline which is 1916 and ward-level officials. He further added that currently there are 500 ambulances available in Mumbai, stating that 150 more will be made available. At the moment, there are 500 ambulances available. 50 more ambulances have been received from Mahindra & Mahindra Group, while 150 ambulances will be available within a week. Therefore, 650 ambulances are touted to be available in Mumbai. Tope also urged the citizens to contact the corona-war room in the ward and register an ambulance which will make the service free to the residents.
Rajesh Tope also spoke about adding more ICU beds stating that 500 more beds will be available in the city shortly. Of this, the city will add another 100-50 beds within a week, he added. Currently, beds are being added at St.George’s hospital, at the COVID-19 treatment facility in BKC, Seven Hills, Worli Dome and so on.
The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray on behalf of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Wednesday inaugurated the second phase of a COVID-19 hospital at BKC Maidan and the e-Dedication Ceremony of 1000-bed Corona Hospital at Thane.
Maharashtra reported 114 deaths on Wednesday, out of which, 77 died in Mumbai, followed by 18 in Pune Municipal Corporation areas, seven in Jalgaon, three in Pune, two each in Nandurbar, Malegaon and Latur, and one each in Mira-Bhayandar, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Yavatmal. The recovery rate in the state of Maharashtra now stands at 50.68 per cent while the fatality rate is at 4.84 per cent.
