BANKURA: Debabrata Bhowmik, the warden of Bankura jail, has been arrested for allegedly supplying drugs to prisoners.
The matter came to light after an inmate, Suman Singh, became unconscious inside his cell on Friday night. Singh is an accused in the 2017 murder of Kharagpur don Srinu Naidu. He was taken to Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital. On regaining co-nsciousness, he told police that he would often do dr-ugs, which were supplied by warden Bhowmik.
A senior officer said Bhowmik confessed his crime during interrogation.
He was produced in court and remanded in police custody for seven days.
