HYDERABAD: A couple from Asif Nagar alleged on Twitter that they are being harrassed by the family members of the woman and police as they had got married against the wishes of her parents.
The couple had tagged MAUD minister KT Rama Rao and senior cops in their appeal on social media. However, police denied the allegation.
P Suresh (23), a wrestler, and Chintala Mounika (22), a degree second-year student, have known each other since childhood as they lived in the same locality.
The couple eloped and got married in Arya Samaj on June 8 but Mounika’s parents did not accept their marriage because Suresh belongs to the SC community.
“The family of the woman lodged a missing complaint on June 8. As the woman is a major, we took her statement in which she said she willingly went with Suresh and wanted to stay with him,” said Asifnagar inspector N Ravinder.
However, the young couple alleged that SI of the police station took Suresh’s brother to the station asking the family to hand over Mounika to her parents. “Otherwise, they will slap false cases against us,” alleged the couple.
The couple also said that Mounika’s parents are torturing Suresh’s family and threatening the couple by speaking about the Miryalaguda honour killing case of Pranay. The couple reached out to KTR and DGP Telangana on Twitter seeking protection.
“Mounika’s family recently alleged that she had stolen some gold jewellery and cash. We took the petition. Later her father again alleged that she has been kept confined in Suresh’s house. We reached out to the couple for a statement and when they did not respond we asked his brother to come to PS. They have been asked to come on Monday for statement,” added the inspector.
