Covid-19: 169 new cases in Gautam Budh Nagar, Ghaziabad

National capital region districts Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad contributed the largest chunk to the state Covid tally on Monday. As many as 605 cases were reported in Uttar Pradesh in 24 hours taking the total to 18.488.

LUCKNOW: National capital region districts Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad contributed the largest chunk to the state Covid tally on Monday. As many as 605 cases were reported in Uttar Pradesh in 24 hours taking the total to 18.488.
While Gautam Budh Nagar added 103 cases, Ghaziabad increased the state tally by 66 entries. Together they added 169 cases which is 27.9% of the total cases reported in the state.

A look at the Covid data shows that UP recorded over 10,000 cases since June 1 of which 16.3% were from the two districts alone.
Among the two Gautam Budh Nagar accounts for 10.5% of the cases, whileGhaziabad added an average of 5.8% cases. Health officials attribute the chunk of cases from the two districts to an increase in the number of tests besides linking it with the situation in New Delhi. Talking about the situation in 24 hours, additional chief secretary, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan Prasad said: “While 605 new cases have been added, 606 persons defeated the pandemic infection and returned home. As of now, the total number of active infections in the state is 6,152.”
As per the state Covid-19 data sheet, districts which recorded double digit entries included Etawah (19), Hapur (19), Sambhal (16), Shamli (16), Gorakhpur (16), Siddharthnagar (15), Kanpur Nagar (15), Varanasi (15), Sant Kabir Nagar (14), Mainpuri (14), Hathras (13), Meerut (11), Baghpat (11), Firozabad (10), Bulandshahr (10), Prayagraj (10), Deoria (10) and Ballia (10). Lucknow saw 55 cases, but the state bulletin included 23 in the sheet. Prasad admitted that as many as 19 deaths were also reported taking the total to 569. Of the new deaths, four each were reported in Agra and Ghaziabad, while Kanpur Nagar and Siddharthnagar recorded two deaths each. In Lucknow, Aligarh, Ghazipur, Bulandshahr, Gorakhpur, Mirzapur and Hathras one death each was reported.
Prasad reiterated that the state would be launching the rapid antigen based Covid-19 test in select districts, including Lucknow, over the week.
