Rajasthan: Abducted Tripura minor in quarantine

JAIPUR: Covid-19 has become a deterrent in probing the case of a minor pregnant girl who was abducted from Tripura and allegedly sold for Rs 1.5 lakh in Jhunjhunu district. The Tripura High Court had also taken suo motu cognizance in the matter. The 14-year-old had been rescued but her statement in a magistrate court is still to be recorded under CrPC Section 164 as she is confined at a quarantine facility.
The girl was admitted to Zanana hospital, Jhunjhunu, as she was found infected on June 16. She was discharged on June 20 after she tested negative on June 19. She was then sent to a child care home where she has been kept in quarantine.
However, police have registered an FIR and arrested two accused in the matter. On June 14, TOI broke the story of her being sold in Jhunjhunu.
"Two persons have been arrested in Jhunjhunu. However, the state's police are in touch with their Tripura counterparts to nab others who were involved," said Shailendra Pandya, member of Rajasthan State Council for Protection of Child Rights (RSCPCR), who took up the issue of the girl.
Pandya said that since she is pregnant, a counsellor has been appointed who will get in touch with her and counsel her about what she wanted to do with the foetus.
The RSCPCR had directed the CWC to file an FIR against the accused and also to provide all necessary help and counselling to the girl.
The incident came into light when the girl fled from the house where she was kept on May 2 and the person who allegedly bought her filed a missing complaint claiming that his wife, whom she married in Mandawa, had gone missing.
