BENGALURU: The decision of the residents of Kanakapura assembly constituency on Sunday to impose a self-lockdown took the government by surprise and it’s seeking a report from officials on how the Ramanagara district administration gave them the go-ahead without consulting the government.
Official sources said a report has been sought by district incharge minister and deputy chief minister CN Ashwath Narayan.
“If Shivakumar, who represents Kanakapura constituency, took the lead and forced people into the lockdown, he’s not the competent authority. It’s the government’s prerogative. If people decided it, we have no problem,” said Narayan.
Shivakumar said the lockdown was part of residents’ strategy to restrict the virus spread and save lives. “We took a collective decision. Let the government take whatever decision it wants,” he added.
He held a public interaction in the constituency on Sunday, It was decided to impose a self-lockdown on from 11am to 7am with only allowing essential services allowed. So far, 36 positive cases have been recorded in Kanakapura after a doctor who turned positive treated patients in his clinic.
