Tamil Nadu: Father-in-law acquitted in Udumalpet caste killing case

COIMBATORE: Kaushalya’s father B Chinnasamy, who was acquitted from Udumalpet V Shankar caste killing case by Madras high court, was released from Coimbatore central Prison on Tuesday evening. Chinnasamy was received outside the prison with shawls by members of his caste outfits.
Coimbatore Central Prison authorities received the Madras high court’s order copy on Tuesday afternoon.
father Chinnasamy, Stephan Dhanraj and Manikandan were released from the prison in the evening.
Members of the Mukkulathor Pulipadai and Moovendar Munnetra Kazhagam greeted Chinnasamy with shawls. Later, they travelled along with Chinnasamy in a car to Kuppampalayam in Dindigul district.
Palani, state legal wing organiser, Mukkulathor Pulipadai, who accompanied Chinnasamy, said Kaushalya’s father was not in a position to speak to media. “Justice prevailed,” he said.
Chinnasamy and five henchmen were sentenced to death by Tirupur principal district and session judge court on December 12, 2017 for murdering V Shankar near Udumalpet bus stand in 2016. Shankar married Kaushalya in 2015 and her parents opposed the marriage.
Dhanraj was awarded double life term and Manikandan was sentenced to five years imprisonment. The lower court acquitted Kaushalya’s mother Annalakshmi, her maternal uncle Pandidurai and a college student.
The government appealed against the three acquitted persons. The convicts too appealed to the Madras high court. While Chinnasamy, Dhanraj and Manikandan were acquitted from the case, five henchmen’s death sentence was reduced to life imprisonment.
