RANCHI/GUMLA: The spike in Covid cases in Simdega continued on Tuesday as the it recorded 24 new cases, becoming the worst-affected district topped in Jharkhand with a total of 348 cases. Meanwhile, another eight districts reported 29 new patients and 51 recoveries.
The steep increase in Simdega is because of returning migrants and all 78 cases detected last week are either workers from various parts of the country or their primary contacts.

Talking to TOI, Covid- 19 nodal officer S Parvez said: “All the 24 patients — include 12 women and a ten-year-old girl — have travel history to New Delhi, Alwar (Rajasthan) and Gurugram (Haryana) and have returned home on June 17 and 18. Of total 348 cases in Sindega, 188 are from different parts of Maharashtra and others are from New Delhi, Gurugram and Rajasthan.
However, Simdega civil surgeon Dr P K Sinha said they are relieved as the recovery rate in Simdega is more than 70% and 238 patients have recovered and the number of active cases is 109.
The total number of cases in Jharkhand has risen to 2,193, of which 1,512 have recovered, 670 are active cases and 11 have succumbed to the infection.
Apart from SImdega other districts detected new cases in single digit. Koderma reported seven cases, East Singhbhum five, Gumla four and Palamu and Ramgarh three each. Dhanbad, Giridih and Lohardaga detected two cases each and Sahebganj reported one case.
The novel coronavirus situation in Jharkhand was on the mend since the duration in which the number of positive cases was doubling was now 24 days compared with nine days two weeks ago, a senior officer said on Tuesday.
Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) state chief Dr Rakesh Dayal said though the number of coronavirus cases was decreasing there was still need for caution since infections were still getting reported.
