BJP-led Manipur govt stable; ally NPP back in fold after meeting with Amit Shah

GUWAHATI: After a week in wilderness, BJP-led coalition government in Manipur headed by chief minister N Biren Singh recovered to gain strength and stability with the return of the National People’s Party (NPP) to its fold on Wednesday.
The homecoming of NPP was sealed in New Delhi by union home minister Amit Shah who met the NPP national president and Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma and his four MLAs in Manipur.Also in the meeting was NEDA chairman and Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who facilitated the reunion meeting with Shah.
Immediately after the meeting Sarma tweeted, “A NPP delegation led by @SangmaConrad and Dy Chief Minister of Manipur Sri Y Joy Kumar Singh met Honble Home minister Sri @AmitShah ji today in New Delhi. Both @BJP4India and NPP will continue to work together for the development of Manipur.”

The coalition of BJP, NPP, NPF and LJP now 27 members, one member more than the half way mark in the truncated house strength of 52.
The Manipur government suffered a severe blow after two allies, NPP and AITC, and an Independent legislator, withdrew support and BJP’s three MLAs resigned from the party on June 17. They teamed up with Congress to float the Secular Progressive Front and even submitted letters of support to former chief minister and Congress legislature party chief Ibobi Singh and staked claim to form the government because the BJP-led alliance government has been reduced to minority.
