New municipal commissioners appointed in Navi Mumbai, Ulhasnagar, Mira-Bhayandar

These changes come amid the increasing cases of coronavirus in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

The Maharashtra government on Tuesday announced the transfer of three municipal commissioners. As per the order, new municipal commissioners have been appointed in three cities including Navi Mumbai, Ulhasnagar and Mira-Bhayandar. 

The order of IAS transfer states that Abhijit Bhangar has been posted as Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner (NMMC) replacing Annasaheb Misal. Bhangar, IAS of batch 2008, has been posted as NMMC Municipal Commissioner from his current post as Additional Divisional Commissioner in Nagpur division

Moreover, Mantada Raj Dhayanidhi has been posted as Ulhasnagar Municipal Commissioner replacing Sudhakar Deshmukh. Dhyanidhi, IAS of batch 2014, has been appointed as Ulhasnagar Municipal Commissioner from his current post as Chief Executive Officer Zila Parishad in Gondia.

Vijay Rathod has been posted as Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) replacing Chandrakant K Dange. Rathod, also from the 2014 IAS batch, has been appointed as Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Commissioner from his current post as Chief Executive Officer Zila Parishad in Gadchiroli

These changes come amid the increasing cases of coronavirus in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Earlier, amid the coronavirus outbreak in Mumbai, Praveen Pardeshi was also replaced by Iqbal Singh Chahal as the commissioner of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Maharashtra has been the worst-hit state due to the coronavirus outbreak. As of June 23 morning, the number of cases in the state has risen to 1,35,796 and the death toll has reached 6,283. 

In Mumbai alone, the number of COVID-19 cases has increased 67,586 while the death toll in the financial capital has touched 3,737. Of the 3,721 COVID-19 cases reported in Maharashtra, nearly 1,098 cases have been recorded in Mumbai alone.
