Trinamool Congress MLA Tamonash Ghosh who tested positive for COVID-19 and was undergoing treatment at a private health facility in the city passed away on Wednesday. The 60-year-old three-time MLA is survived by wife and two daughters.
Mr. Ghosh represented Falta Assembly constituency in South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal.
“Very, very sad. Tamonash Ghosh, three-time MLA from Falta & party treasurer since 1998 had to leave us today. Been with us for over 35 years, he was dedicated to the cause of the people & party. He contributed much through his social work,” Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said.
Ms. Banerjee took to Twitter to express her condolences and said that the party leader “has left a void that will be difficult to fill”.
Mr. Ghosh is the first elected public representative in the State to succumb to the contagious viral infection.
During the day, Ms. Banerjee called for an all-party meeting to discuss the situation arising out of the pandemic.
While the discharge rate has increased to 62.58 %, the number of deaths touched 580 on Tuesday. The total number of infections is 14,728 of which 4,930 are active cases.
