NEW DELHI: Shehnai banquet hall in central Delhi's Daryaganj has become the first facility to be converted into a 100-bed emergency Covid-care centre. The facility has been linked with the nearby Lok Nayak Hospital.
Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia visited the banquet hall on Wednesday to take stock of the ramping up of medical infrastructure in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

After visiting the place, Kejriwal tweeted, "We have started a corona centre comprising 100 beds at a banquet hall today. Every bed has oxygen. Corona centres will be built in several banquet halls across Delhi in a similar manner."
In a recent exercise, Delhi government has identified 77 banquet halls, which would be turned into Covid facilities with beds ranging between 20-325 beds. According to officials, Delhi will get 11,229 additional Covid beds with the conversion of banquet halls into Covid care centres. Kejriwal said 'Doctors for You', a not-for-profit organisation, would operate the facility.
"Every bed will have oxygen supply. The facility has been attached to the Lok Nayak Hospital, which is situated right across the road. Patients with moderate symptoms can be admitted to the facility, and if their condition worsens, they will be shifted to the Lok Nayak Hospital," Kejriwal said.
The CM added that last week the government had added 3,000 beds in hotels attached to the private hospitals. "We have sufficient beds now. Of the 13,500 beds, around 6,200 are currently occupied in both private and government hospitals. The number has been stagnant since yesterday, which means that the usage of beds has not increased, even though 4,000 new cases have emerged in the past 24 hours," Kejriwal said.
