LUCKNOW: Health officers on Wednesday confirmed that the wife of an Army personnel, who died on June 19 during treatment at the Base Hospital in Lucknow, was suffering from Covid-19.
This takes city's Covid toll to 16 - one death in April, three in May, and 12 in June so far. Majority of the victims were elderly with comorbid conditions. However, the state bulletin released on Wednesday put the city toll at 13 as the health department will first audit the latest deaths reported.
The Army personnel's wife, who was suffering from gall-bladder cancer, was admitted to the Base Hospital on June 17.
Her mandatory Covid test before treatment as per the protocol came positive. She had end stage cancer and died on June 19.
The information, however, became public five days later on Wednesday when a trainee nurse on duty in the Covid ward of the Base Hospital also tested positive for the infection.
It also came to the fore on Wednesday that five family members of the deceased - her husband, brother and his wife, mother and another relative - were also diagnosed with the disease on June 19.
While the couple lived in Cantonment, other family members are residents of Alambagh.
Confirming the developments, chief medical officer, Lucknow, Dr Narendra Agarwal said that the woman was suffering from Coronavirus apart from other ailments. A trainee nurse at the same hospital, who was on Covid duty, has also tested positive for the disease."
