LUCKNOW: In a rare feat, six districts of the Lucknow police range resolved as many as 4,650 disputes within three weeks. The dispute cases were pending for the last five years under its six districts — Hardoi, Kheri, Lucknow rural, Rae Bareli, Sitapur and Unnao.
Talking to TOI, inspector general of police, Lucknow range, Laxmi Singh said that around 14-15,000 cases were pending for flimsy reasons.
The IG went on an inspection spree in the six districts after assuming charge. “I held consistent meetings in each district separately and instructed the investigation officer (IOs) to come up with the issues leading to pendency. Most were because of lack of will to arrest the accused. I gave them a free hand and also instructed them to come to work within a stipulated time frame,” she said.
As a result, we were able to bring down pending cases in the range under 10,000. Laying stress on implementation of ‘beat policing’, Singh told policemen that it was the backbone of policing and if followed sincerely helped curb crime.
The officer randomly visited different areas to assess beat policing and also rewarded a constable under each of its districts. The IG is also monitoring and supervising operations against criminals with a history sheet. In the last three weeks, 26 such criminals have been nabbed.
