Heavy rainfall alert in Bihar till June 30

A day after 96 people were killed by lightning in 23 districts in Bihar, medium to heavy monsoon rainfall continued at many places in the state on Friday.

PATNA: A day after 96 people were killed by lightning in 23 districts in Bihar, medium to heavy monsoon rainfall continued at many places in the state on Friday.
In fact, Patna meteorological centre for the first time this monsoon season stated on Friday evening that monsoon was vigorous over Bihar in last 24 hours.
Residents across the state can expect similar intensity of showers at least over the next four days as Patna meteorological centre has issued forecast for rainfall with thunderstorm very likely at most places in almost all 38 districts till Sunday.

Though the intensity of rainfall may slightly reduce on Monday and Tuesday but it is again likely to increase for two days thereafter.
With regard to rainfall on Friday, the Patna meteorological centre stated in its daily bulletin that light to moderate rainfall occurred at most places over Bihar and heavy to very heavy rainfall at few places over north Bihar during last 24 hours. Heavy rainfall also occurred at one or two places over south- west and south- central parts of the state during last 24 hours.
The places which received significant amount of rainfall, included
Bahadurganj in Kishanganj and Hayaghat in Darbhanga-130mm each, Taiyabpur in Kishanganj, Chatia in East Champaran and Daudnagar in Aurangabad district-120mm each, Bodhgaya, Gaya and Thakurganj in Kishanganj- 110mm each, Araria, Motihari, Hussainganj in Siwan and Pachrukhi-90mm each.
The ongoing rainy spell has been attributed to favourable position of trough- an elongated low pressure area along with convergence of winds in the region. The bulletin issued by Patna meteorological centre stated that a trough line was passing across Punjab to east Bihar across Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. A second trough line was running from Bihar to east Vidarbha across north Chhattisgarh.
The all- India weather bulletin issued by India Meteorological Department on Friday evening stated that widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to continue over northeast and adjoining east India during next three days. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is also likely over Bihar on Saturday.
The IMD has further issued forecast for thunderstorm accompanied with lightening very likely at few places in Bihar during next four to five days.
