3k out of 4k Covid patients recovered in Vid, 63% of them in June
Nagpur: A day after surpassing 4,000 Covid-19 cases, Vidarbha on Friday surpassed 3,000-mark in recoveries with total 122 patients discharged from different hospitals in the region. Now, out of 4,138 total cases, 3,104 have recovered, taking Vidarbha’s recovery rate to over 75%.
Interestingly, out of the total 3,104 recoveries, 1,950 came in 26 days of June alone, i.e.
63% of Vidarbha’s recoveries in last 26 days.
On June 26, Vidarbha reported 82 new cases, while 122 patients were discharged. Three Covid-19 deaths were reported from the region — 2 in Nagpur and 1 in Amravati, taking the casualty numbers from Vidarbha to 144. Fatality rate of the region is still 3.47%, which is slightly higher than national rate of 3.1% but lower than Maharashtra’s 4.6%.
Akola reported 22 new cases followed by Nagpur 17, Buldhana 13, Chandrapur 8, Yavatmal 4, Amravati 14, Gadchiroli 2, Wardha 1, and Washim 1. On Friday, highest 57 patients recovered in Akola, followed by Nagpur 25, Amravati 13, Yavatmal 12, Washim 6, Gadchiroli 3, Buldhana 3, Gondia 2, Chandrapur 1. With 102 out of 104 patients recovered and discharged, Gondia district now has only 2 active patients, both young and asymptomatic.
Akola accounts for 74 out of 144 Covid-19 deaths in Vidarbha, but no new death was reported from there on Friday. However, two patients — one from Gondia and another from Covid-19 hotspot Dobi Nagar in Nagpur — died in Nagpur. Amravati also reported death of a 71-year-old man from Badnera, a newest Covid-19 hotspot in the district. Now, Nagpur has 23 deaths while Amravati has 21.
AMRAVATI: Hotspot Badnera posted its third Covid-19 death on Friday to take the district’s death toll to 21 as a 71-year-old resident of Chawadi Chowk in Old City of Badnera breathed his last at Covid Hospital. Posting 14 new cases today, Amravati is only 14 shy of 500-mark now. These cases have taken the district’s Covid count to 486.

While 14 new cases came in, 13 were discharged today, to take the number of recovered patients to 350. This is about 72%. A release by civil surgeon’s office said swab samples of the Badnera deceased were taken on June 24 as he showed symptoms. Later, as the patient developed high fever, he was admitted to district general hospital. He died during treatment on Friday morning, while his swab report came positive in the evening along with another 41-year-old male from his family. Earlier in the morning , a 24-year-old female from Weekly Bazar locality tested positive. These three cases took Badnera’s Covid count to 69.
Another PDMC doctor, this time a male aged 27, tested positive to take the count of health care workers from the hospital, where nurses have struck work, to three.
Amba Gate too reported three cases (M 18, F 44 & 75) this evening to take its count to six, while Mahajanpura added two more — a couple aged 51 and 45, to take its count to three. Chhayanagar posted its fourth case through a woman aged 28, while Sabanpura took its count to 14 through a male aged 56. Earlier in the morning, Dattapur in Dhamangaon Railway tehsil posted 42nd case from rural belt when a 34-year-old man of Anjangaon Surji town tested positive there.
Motinagar in the city gave its first case today through a 27-year-old woman, while a 47-year-old woman posted Gopalnagar’s fourth case. With 21 deaths and 350 recovered patients, the number of active cases on Friday is 115, including 11 in Nagpur.
AKOLA: On Friday, Akola reported 22 new cases while 57 patients were discharged. Akola has total 1,364 cases, of which 1,047 have recovered. Recovery rate is more than 76% which is best from the districts having more than 1,000 Covid-19 cases. Akola even surpassed Nagpur with six more patients recovered from there. Akola is worst-hit district of Vidarbha with 74 deaths till date. But, high recovery rate is a promising factor.
CHANDRAPUR: In yet another spark in Covid-19 cases, 8 more people were found positive to coronavirus infection in Chandrapur. The number of positive patients in Chandrapur has now risen to 74.
Seven of them belong to Warora tehsil. They include two youths — 19-year-old and 25-year-old sisters — from Subhash Nagar in Warora who had returned from Aurangabad and tested positive. Similarly a couple, including a 64-year-old husband and 54-year-old wife from Waghnakh village in Warora tehsil, who had returned from Mumbai and were put into home quarantine, was also found positive to Covid-19. A 32-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman from Abhyankar ward in Warora, who had returned from Hyderabad and were serving home quarantine, too have been found positive to the infection. One other 65-year old person from Dongargaon in Warora tehsil was also detected positive.
A 27-year-old woman from Pathanpura ward in Chandrapur city, wife of a positive patient, tested positive in the reports that came late on Thursday night.
WARDHA: A 35-year-old man of Badnera near Amravati, who was admitted to Acharya Vinoba Bhave Rural Hospital for treatment, was found positive on Friday. His relatives had brought him to the hospital in Sawangi for treatment two days ago. On Thursday, the youth was found to have symptoms of coronavirus and his swab sample was sent to the lab for testing. The administration immediately started the process of tracing the persons in close contact with this man.
YAVATMAL: Four new positive cases were reported on Friday while 12 patients recovered and discharged in Yavatmal. Now, the number of total active patients in Yavatmal is 64. Among four new patients reported on June 26 are two men and two women. Three are from Digras and one from Darwha. Currently, there are 88 persons admitted in the isolation ward, 64 of them are active patients while others are presumptive cases whose samples will be tested now.
BULDHANA: Thirteen new cases were reported in Buldhana which is now heading towards double century of Covid-19 cases. Alarming fact about Buldhana is that the cases are coming from remote villages in the district. On June 26, four cases wee reported from Nandura, and 1 each from Khamgaon, Shegaon, Alsana, Sagrampur and Lonar. Malkapur in Buldhana is emerging as hotspot with 4 deaths reported from here in last eight days. Buldhana now has 183 cases, including 11 deaths and 135 recoveries.
WASHIM: Recoveries were on the rise in Washim for the second day in a row on June 26. Six patients recovered taking total recovery count to 64 out of 87 cases. A 14-year-old Mumbai-returnee boy tested positive which was only new case reported here on June 26. Apart from reporting 2 deaths, Washim has 21 active cases, all of them being returnees from different hotspot districts.
GADCHIROLI: Two new cases were reported, while three patients recovered from Gadchiroli on June 26. Both the youths who tested positive from Gadchiroli were returnees and they were already in institutional quarantine facilities. Three women from Mulchera tehsil recovered and discharged from district hospital. Now, Gadchiroli has 64 cases, and 49 of them recovered.
BHANDARA: The district was the only one from Vidarbha that reported neither a new case nor any recovery on June 26. Number of active patients here is 28.
