    Three more Maharashtra cops die of COVID-19; toll rises to 54

    Three Maharashtra Police personnel, including an officer, died of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the toll in the state force to 54. Out of the 54 victims, 34 were from the Mumbai Police force. Three officers were among the 54 personnel who have so far succumbed to the viral infection since its outbreak in the state.

    As of now, more than 4,200 police personnel have been infected with coronavirus. Of these, over 3,000 have recovered

    Elderly migrant labourer dies in UP after returning from Punjab

    A 60-year-old migrant labourer who was returning from Punjab where he worked in a brick kiln died near his native village under Naraini police station area.

    According to his kin, Betu and his family were returning to Palhari village in a truck on Wednesday when he complained of stomachache and nausea, SHO Naraini Girindra Singh said.

    He died just before reaching his village, the SHO said, adding the family members informed the gram pradhan, suspecting it to be a case of coronavirus.

    5 militant associates linked to LeT held in Budgam

    Five militant associates linked to Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) have been arrested in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Thursday. A police official said the five were arrested from Narbal area of the district.
    Incriminating documents, arms and ammunition have been seized from them. A case has been registered and an investigation is on, the official added.

    Covid-19: Patients arrive in Delhi's rail coach isolation centre

    Two Coronavirus infected patients were admitted to the railway coaches-turned isolation wards in the national capital's Shakurbasti railway station on Wednesday. The Indian Railways has converted many rail coaches into isolation centres to extend a helping hand in combating the Covid-19 pandemic that has claimed over 14,000 lives in the country so far.

    General Manager of North Central Railway, Rajiv Chaudhary said the coaches began getting patients from Wednesday. The railway coaches in Shakurbasti have been stationed in a shed to protect them from direct sunlight.

    These rail coach isolation facilities can be moved to any part of the country on a short notice. 

    On June 17, on the demand of Delhi government, the Northern Railway installed 503 isolation coaches at nine railway stations in the national capital. These coaches will be used to keep patients with low symptoms.

    Girl commits suicide, family members secretly bury her

    A 16-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide at her house in east Delhi and her family members secretly buried her body, which was later exhumed for post-mortem, police said on Wednesday. The girl, whose family hails from Jharkhand, allegedly hanged herself in a room in her house on Monday, they said.

    No suicide note was recovered from the spot, police said. Her body was exhumed on Tuesday as per the directions of the Sub Divisional Magistrate of the area. The process was carried out as her family members secretly buried her without informing the police.

    Encounter breaks out between security forces, militants in J&K's Sopore

    An encounter broke out between security forces and militants in Sopore area of Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday,.

    Security forces launched a cordon and search operation at Hardshiva in Sopore area, of north Kashmir, this morning after receiving specific information about the presence of militants in the area, a police officer said.

    He said the search operation turned into an encounter after terrorists fired upon a search party of the forces, who retaliated. The exchange of firing is going on and further details are awaited.

    Fire breaks out at bank office in Mumbai's Nariman Point area

    A fire broke out at a bank in south Mumbai's Nariman Point area today, fire brigade officials said. The bank is located in the Jolly Maker Chamber 2 building. The fire broke out around 5 am, the officials said.

     

    It spread across electric wiring, office records, false ceiling in an area of 4,000 sq feet on the ground floor, they said, adding nobody was injured.

    Diesel price crosses ₹80 mark in Delhi, petrol at ₹79.92. Check revised rate

    Diesel price has surpassed the price of petrol for the second day in a row as fuel rate hiked for the 19th day on Thursday. Petrol price was hiked by 16 paise a litre while diesel price went up by 14 paise a litre today.

    Diesel has crossed Rs 80 mark in Delhi, currently at Rs 80.02/litre (increase by Rs 0.14). Petrol price in the national capital will now cost Rs 79.92/litre (increase by Rs 0.16). In 19 days, the price of petrol has gone up by ₹8.66 a litre while diesel price has gone by a higher margin of ₹10.63 a litre.
