GUWAHATI: The city was hit by
incessant rain since Thursday night, triggering
waterlogging in many areas. Water later receded within a few hours in some places.
The city received 45 mm of rainfall from Thursday morning to Friday afternoon, leaving several roads and most bylanes in the city severly affected. The meteorological office said heavy rain will lash the northeast in the next four to five days.
Commuters, motorists and pedestrians faced problems as Panjabari, Six mile, Rajgarh, RG
Baruah Road area, Chandmari, Rukmini gaon and Hatigaon, among others, were submerged in knee to waist-deep water.
"Drains are overflowing. Some of them are not even covered, leading to a stench in the area. The uncovered sewer
drains pose a threat to pedestrians," said a pedestrian in the Hatigaon area.
Trees were also uprooted near the
Dighalipukhuri area.
