NEW DELHI: Days after a
policeman shot himself dead at
Vasant Vihar police station,
cops deployed on the ground during the
pandemic were taken through a stress-counselling programme to deal with depression caused due to the long absence from their families.
Policemen in central Delhi were handed over a questionnaire regarding the kinds of problems they face including physical, mental and psychological ones, which they can answer and send back in sealed envelopes.
Of them 30 cops were found to be requiring a session and were individually counselled. The cops collaborated with a pathological institute and the
Delhi State Legal Services Authority for the session.
"These are the men who are at the front-line of the fight against Covid-19. Apart from distressing them we also educated them about how the disease usually spreads and what are the precautions that can be taken," said Dr Mini Mehta, one of the counsellors.
Incidentally, while the counselling session was underway, a ITBP jawan named Sandeep Kumar (31) who was on security duty attached to the Karol Bagh police station shot himself with his service weapon inside the police barrack.
