Dakshina Kannada, Udupi record 63 new Covid-19 cases

Dakshina Kannada district saw a net increase of 11 active Covid-19 cases on Saturday, a day that district health authorities confirmed 49 fresh cases and discharged 38 people post treatment. Neighbouring Udupi on the other hand reported 14 fresh cases taking its total positive cases to 1139 and active cases to 90. Total positive cases in DK as on date is 566. The districts have a combined tally of 12 deaths with DK accounting for 10.

MANGALURU/UDUPI: Dakshina Kannada district saw a net increase of 11 active Covid-19 cases on Saturday, a day that district health authorities confirmed 49 fresh cases and discharged 38 people post treatment. Neighbouring Udupi on the other hand reported 14 fresh cases taking its total count to 1,139 and active cases to 90. Total positive cases in DK as on date is 566. The districts have a combined tally of 12 deaths with DK accounting for 10.
Out of the 49 cases in Dakshina Kannada, 14 were reported from those who returned from Saudi Arabia, Dammam, Dubai, Sharjah and Qatar, three have been categorised as influenza like illness (ILI), four case of severe acute respiratory infection (SARI), 22 primary contacts of those already infected.
Efforts are on to trace how six others contracted the disease, said Sindhu B Rupesh, deputy commissioner, DK district, said in an official communique.
Out of the 22 primary contacts, 16 are members of one family in contact with P-5950, one of the four patients in ICU at the district Wenlock Hospital, the dedicated Covid-19 hospital for the district. P-5950 is under treatment for liver and heart ailment, diabetes, and pneumonia and is on ventilator support. Other three under treatment in the ICU are being treated for similar co-morbidities. One of them, a 78-year-old, also has Parkinson’s disease.
Udupi deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha said health authorities in Udupi are awaiting reports of 332 people whose swabs have been collected. Thus far, 1047 patients have been discharged post-treatment, DC said. Incidentally, the district has recorded 92% achievement in terms of getting people to register to the quarantine app, he said adding focus is now on testing frontline corona warriors – doctors and policemen who are getting more susceptible.
