MUMBAI: After CBSE and CISCE cancelled pending board exams, the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) board students demanded the same. The board on Friday postponed practical exams till further notice. The practical and theory exams had been scheduled from July 2 to August 13. A circular issued also said a decision on theory exams was yet to be taken.
"In the city, transport isn't available for the public yet, so how would students travel to exam centres?" said a senior professor, D P Mehta.
He has written to the Chief Justice of India regarding the same. Several NIOS students have been assigned exam centres far from their homes.
A portion of NIOS students have special needs-it would be difficult for them to find scribes during the pandemic. "A lot of students with special needs also have low immunity and it would mean greater risk of contracting the disease," said the mother of a class XII student, Melody Pereira.
