Kerala records 195 new Covid-19 cases, tally crosses 4,000 but infection through contact still low

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state on Saturday reported 195 positive cases, its highest single-day spike, even as the tally so far, starting with the first case on January 30, crossed the four-thousand mark. The number of positive cases has been in three digits for the past nine days and steadily ascending from 118 on June 19 and 141 on June 23 to 150 on Friday.

Among Saturday's tally, 118 persons came from abroad, 62 from other states, while those who got infected though contact was 15. According to the office of the health minister, testing has been intensified substantially and over 6,000 samples tested in the last 24 hours.
A district-wise breakup showed that among those who contracted the disease through contacts, 10 were in Malappuram, two in Kollam and one each in Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kannur districts.

Of the newly reported Covid cases, 47 were in Malappuram, 25 in Palakkad, 22 in Thrissur, 15 in Kottayam, 14 in Ernakulam, 13 in Alappuzha, 12 in Kollam, 11 each in Kannur, kasaragod, 8 in Kozhokode, 6 in Pathanamthitta, 5 in Wayanad, 4 in Thiruvananthapuram and 2 in Idukki.
As many as 102 persons recovered from the infection on the day, raising the number of recoveries so far to 2,108. As on date, 1,939 people are under treatment. Parali in Palakkad was declared a hotspot on Saturday, while four other places were removed from that category.
As many as 1,67,978 persons are currently under observation. Of this, 2,463 are in hospitals and the rest under house/ institutional quarantine. In total, 2,15, 243 samples in all categories were sent for testing, of which results of 4,032 samples are awaited.
