CHENNAI: On the second Sunday of
complete lockdown in Chennai, the public stayed indoors as police clamped down on
violators.
While arterial roads wore an almost deserted look, the interior roads in residential neighbourhoods too witnessed less activity as the Chennai Corporation has started fining even morning walkers.
Three days ago, the Greater Chennai Corporation had penalised a few citizens who were on morning walk, levying fines ranging from Rs 100- Rs 300.
Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had announced that intense lockdown would be in force in Chennai and parts of Tiruvallur, Chengelpet and Kanchipuram districts from June 19 till June 30 to curb the spread of
Covid-19. It was also announced that a
full lockdown would be observed during the two Sundays (on June 21 and June 28) during the 12-day period.

"I was stopped and detained for more than an hour despite carrying medicines. Our vehicle had a pass for essential services too. But police were strict because it was in my father's name," said S Gokul, a pharmacist in Nanganallur.
