MUMBAI: A one-man fact finding team visited the Jawhar village, Palghar district, on Thursday, where a tribal woman had killed her three-year-old daughter and taken her own life. The woman had a seven-year-old daughter as well, who was at home when the incident occurred.
The chairperson of a state-appointed committee to review schemes for tribals, Vivek Pandit, said the 30-year-old woman and her husband (35) used to work for a brick kiln in Bhiwandi.
After the kiln closed due to lockdown, their employer gave them Rs 3,000, instead of the promised Rs 16,000.
Pandit said that husband had to borrow money for his wife and child's last rites. He had no job or money to meet their daily expenses. He said that the names of their daughters were not even mentioned on the ration card. Pandit said a detailed report will be submitted to the state.
