    Karnataka sees 1,267 cases in the biggest single-day spike

    The number of Covid-19 cases in the state has increased three-fold in the last two days. The sudden rise in cases in Bengaluru, according to health officials, has been due to more random testing of vulnerable and high-exposure groups like civic workers, police and shop keepers in market areas.

    Bengaluru: Karnataka recorded 1,267 Covid-19-positive cases on Sunday, its biggest single-day jump, with Bengaluru alone contributing 783 cases to the tally. The state also reported 16 deaths from the infection from nine districts.

    Among the deceased, four are from Bengaluru Urban, three from Dakshina Kannada, two each from Tumkur and Bagalkot and one each from Dharwad, Hassan, Mysuru, Ballari and Kalaburgi.

    The health department on Sunday announced it will reserve 1,600 beds in Bengaluru’s Government Ayurveda College, two student hostels of GKVK agriculture university and two hotels as Covid Care Centres to treat asymptomatic patients. This will be in addition to the facility developed in Koramangala Indoor Stadium and Art of Living Centre on Kanakapura Road.
