BENGALURU: Twenty-four passengers who were supposed to be in home quarantine were found travelling in a BMTC bus on Saturday evening. The passengers, who have a history of interstate travel, were spotted violating the state’s quarantine norms around 7:30pm, when the bus they were travelling in stopped at Chandapura. They had all boarded the vehicle at Majestic and purchased tickets for Chandapura.
They were headed to Muthanallur from there. “I noticed the hand seal around 7:30pm on Saturday,” said Mallesh Prabhu, the bus conductor, who informed his depot manager. “I immediately got instructions that they have to be deboarded. Apart from these 24 people, around 41 others travelled in that bus that day,” said Mallesh.
“As per government directions, people in home quarantine should strictly stay indoors. Our instruction to our staffers is very clear — we should not allow home-quarantined people to board buses because they are still under observation and are supposed to stay at home. We also try to communicate with the BBMP about violations,” said BMTC managing director C Shikha.
As of June 20, over 1.3 lakh quarantine violations were reported in Karnataka. While FIRs have been filed against 146 people, 126 have been sent to institutional quarantine and 34,370 have been warned.
