Kalyan-Dombivli may overtake Navi Mumbai, Thane in case tally

After Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli is steadily becoming a Covid-19 hotspot with the city recording 435 new cases on Monday—the highest in Thane district. The rise pushed its total for coronavirus-infected people to 6,113. The death toll in Kalyan-Dombivli touched 113 with six deaths on Monday.
According to health department data, over the past week Kalyan-Dombivli has reported an average of 350 new cases of coronavirus infection every day.If the trend continues, officials said Kalyan-Dombivli might soon leave behind Navi Mumbai (6,427) and Thane (8,506) in the total number of cases.
A municipal official attributed the spike in Covid-19 cases to aggressive testing. In 10 days, the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation has doubled testing of people to 1,000 a day from the 500 that it was achieving previously. It has also procured 10,000 rapid antigen testing kits for preliminary screening.
Kalyan-Dombivli has 3,706 active cases while 2,294 have recovered and been discharged from hospital.
