CarryMinati hailed as ‘winner’ by Twitter after India bans 59 Chinese apps including TikTok; memes, GIFs go viral

As tensions between India and China continued to escalate after the Galwan valley stand-off in Ladakh, the Indian government on Monday banned 59 Chinese apps, including TikTok, to counter the threat posed by the apps to the country's ‘sovereignty and security’.
In damage-control mode, TikTok was quick to issue a statement and said that it will be meeting government stakeholders to ‘respond and submit clarifications’. As of now, the app has been removed from both Google Play Store and Apple Play Store.

Soon after the news of the ban broke, Twitter erupted with hilarious memes and jokes, poking fun at everything ranging from the plight of TikTok creators to Shein users and of course, the YouTube vs TikTok battle that grabbed headlines last month.

Twitter was quick to churn out memes, taking a dig at the overnight popularity of TikTok users that now seems a mirage.

Others lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the step, and for putting the nation first.

Several PUBG users breathed a sigh of relief that their favourite gaming app wasn’t included in the ban. Tencent Games’ popular title somehow managed to evade the list of 59 apps banned by the government, and PUBG lovers celebrated the news with memes and plenty of humour.

Some memes poked fun at the angst of TikTokers, who won’t be able to create content as the app is now banned.

Twitterati also revisited the infamous YouTube vs TikTok battle and hailed YouTuber CarryMinati, whose roast video was taken down by YouTube, as the ‘winner’ of the battle.

Carryminati had uploaded the video titled ‘YouTube vs TikTok - The End’ where he roasted TikTokers. The video was on its way to become ‘India’s most-liked non-music video’ when it was taken down by YouTube, allegedly due to mass reporting by NGOs and LGBT activists who were upset due to the homophobic and transphobic slurs used by the YouTuber in his video.
