Kerala government imposes triple lockdown in Malappuram amid rising COVID-19 cases

As the Coronavirus cases continue to rise in Malappuram in Kerala, a triple lockdown has been imposed in parts of the district till July 6. The intensive restrictions have been put into force to contain the spread of the novel Coronavirus.

It is a Coronavirus containment strategy that was first implemented in the Kasaragod district of Kerala when the Coronavirus outbreak was in its initial stage in the state. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced the move and said that the triple lockdown came into force from Monday, June 29, 5 pm.

“The decision was taken due to the increase in the number of cases in Edappal and Ponnani regions. Arrangements being made for widespread testing. Everyone with fever and breathing issues to be tested. Health workers, hospital employees, bank employees, transport workers, auto taxi drivers will be tested even if they are asymptomatic,” the state Chief Minister stated.
