FIAPO seeks stringent action against people who hanged monkey in Telangana
CHENNAI: A day ago, a monkey that entered a farmer’s field at Ammapalem in Khamman district of Telangana was abused and hanged by the neck till it died. Worse, the barbaric act was done in full view by the local villagers. A video of the incident shows it struggling for life, while two dogs bark. Some locals can also be seen with lathis in their hands.
As the apex body for animal rights in India, the Federation of India Animal Protection Organisations (FIAPO) has reached out to government authorities, including, minister of environment, forest and climate change Prakash Javadekar and chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, urging them to arrest the culprits and take stringent legal action against them.

Animals are protected by laws – the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and also by the Indian Penal Code, 1860. Despite these laws, animals continue to be brutally abused.
FIAPO has called upon the government to act on its social responsibility towards animals across the country, to ensure their rights can be recognized and secured. While the Sathupalli Forest Range Officer (FRO) A Venkateswaralu has picked up three people in connection to this crime, it is important that this systematic attack directed against the animal be punished with the maximum possible penalty so it deters others who would consider engaging in such heinous crimes against animals.
