With the lockdown ending in some parts of Mumbai on Tuesday, local authorities have decided to allow more than 10 per cent attendance at local offices and also increase the frequency of trains arriving at suburban stations. While trains were only available at a frequency of 15-20 minutes, they will be available every 5 minutes from Tuesday, June 30, it is said.
It is specified that existing restrictions in regions like Pune and Thane will be in place, and these new additions are likely to change anything in containment zones. Authorities mentioned that there are currently no plans to reopen gyms, malls, and swimming pools, though there have been conflicting reports on that front.
Update: It has now been announced that the lockdown has been extended till July 31.Also government offices can now have up to 15 per cent of the staff
While all offices in non-containment zones were previously permitted to operate at a capacity of 10%, Mumbai Guardian Minister, Aslam Shaikh said that the authorities are considering upping this to 30%.
“We are working out standard operating procedure for all types of trades. We feel that attendance in offices should be increased from 10 per cent to 30 per cent. Sooner or later, we will have to open malls and markets for restoring city’s economy,” Shaikh said.

A cabinet member mentioned that given the increase in cases right now, the state government has no option but to increase the lockdown by another month. He added that the people “misused” the relaxations that were briefly put in place.
Additionally, State Energy Minister Nitin Raut has added that stricter measures need to be implemented to curb the rise of cases. It was reported earlier today that a total lockdown will be in effect across the BMC’s S-Ward until July 5, while there’s every possibility of a further extension depending on the number of cases.
More recently, Maharashtra announced a state lockdown until July 31 effectively putting a halt to the phased relaxations. It is currently not clear as to how this will impact the decision to ramp up staff at Mumbai’s office or the proposed increase in the frequency of suburban trains.
