THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The pass percentage of SSLC examinations that concluded in the last week of May notched up hardly 1% as the results announced here on Tuesday recorded 98.82% students clearing the examination this year.
The pass percentage went up by 0.71 %, compared to last year. “The stunning results of the examinations that were conducted in two schedules following the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic was a glowing tribute to all stakeholders and government departments that worked hard to organize the exams,” said general education minister C Raveendranath, who formally announced the result here on Tuesday.

Of the 4,22,092 candidates who appeared for the examination this year, 4,17,101 emerged as eligible for higher studies. Candidates who scored at least D+ grade are considered eligible for higher studies. There is a significant rise in the number of candidates securing A+ in all subjects this time. While 41,906 candidates secured all A+ this year, the same was less by 4,572 last year.
Pathanamthitta revenue district recorded the highest pass percentage (99.7%), while Wayanad recorded the least percentage (95.04%). Kuttanad education district has achieved the distinction of having clinched 100% in terms of students becoming eligible for higher studies. The minister said there were enough Plus One seats available in government and aided schools in the state.
“4,23,975 Plus One seats are currently open in our schools while the number of students eligible for higher studies is only 4,17,101. There is no question of students not getting admission to Plus One seats this year. Since other board examination results are yet to be announced, the Plus One admission procedure would commence accordingly as all would get a chance for seeking admission in government/aided schools,” the minister said. Students would be getting QR code-enabled SSCLC certificates this year onwards. The QR code would be of great help for students when higher education institutions and their prospective employees would want to validate the certificate, the minister said.

The school where the maximum number of students took the examination was PKMM HSS, Edarikode in Malappuram district. As many as 2,327 students took the exam in that school. The schools with least candidates were Govt HS Thekkekkara, Alappuzha (2 students), Hassan Haji Foundation International HS, Thalassery (2 students). Pass percentage among SC, ST, OBC and OEC category students is 97.75%, 91.12%, 98.97% and 99.15% respectively. Pass percentage in Gulf countries and Lakshadweep are 98.32% and 94.76% respectively.
Save a Year (SAY) examination would be conducted for students unable to clear the regular examination. Date for SAY examination would be announced later. Though the results were supposed to be available online only after the formal announcement by the minister, several government websites published the results around half an hour before the announcement at 2pm.
