BENGALURU: A 52-year-old garment trader who battled breathlessness as several hospitals denied him treatment before he died in front of another hospital on Saturday, was a Covid-19 patient. Results of his throat swab test were released on Tuesday.
The man’s son — a Corona warrior, who helped police and BBMP staff on the field during the lockdown — also tested positive. “But when I needed help, all doors were shut on me.
This shouldn’t happen with anyone,” the son said.
The son has been admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases. Throat swabs of his mother and elder sister have been collected.
Following a TOI report on Tuesday — 52-year-old man dies after 18 hospitals deny admission — chief secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar held a meeting with BBMP officials and sought information about the incident.
Speaking to TOI from his hospital bed, the 28-year-old son said, “I was part of the largest volunteer team created by IAS officer P Manivannan. I reached out to many distressed people and fed them during the lockdown. When the government asked me to work at the airport, I did it for public welfare. But when I was running from pillar to post to save my father, nobody came to my help. Minutes before my father died at the doorstep of a hospital, its staff abused the ambulance driver for bringing him there. It was really devastating, and I do not want anyone to go through this.”
