All services in the orthopaedic ward of the Trauma Centre of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) have been suspended after junior resident doctor was tested positive for Covid-19.

VARANASI: All services in the orthopaedic ward of the Trauma Centre of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) have been suspended after junior resident doctor was tested positive for Covid-19.
All other 13 junior residents, who live in in Sushrut hostel with infected junior resident doctor, have been quarantined and process of admission of patients in this ward has been stopped.
Trauma Centre in-charge Prof SK Gupta said, “A junior resident of orthopaedic ward had been tested Covid-19 positive, although how he got infected is not clear.
After the arrival of his test report, all his 13 hostel inmates had been quarantined while orthopaedic emergency and surgery services have also been stopped. Tests of all patients admitted in this ward have been conducted and none of them has been found to be infected.”
Till the services of this ward are restored, he said, the new patients are being referred to DDU district hospital’s orthopaedic ward after providing first aid. Accidental cases which can be treated at neuro, general and plastic surgery are being admitted at Trauma Centre as emergency and surgical services of these wards are continuing.
The Trauma Centre treats only accidental cases. Prof Gupta said that all patients turn up here are properly screened and in case of suspected Covid-19 case they are kept in holding area till their lab test report arrives. In case of detection of infection in any of them they are immediately shifted to SSL hospital’s isolation ward.
