ENDING WITH A CAR GOING OVER THE EDGE OF A CLIFF IN SANTA CRUZ. THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE SAYS THEY RECIEVED REPORTS A MAN SHOOTING A HAND GUN INTO THE AIR JUS NORTH OF DAVENPORT. THE MAN THEN CARJACKED A VEHICLE WHERE SHORTLY AFTER, A PURSUIT BEGAN..... REACHING SPEEDS OF UP TO 100 MILES PER HOUR. THE PURSUIT ENDING AT WEST CLIFF DRIVE WHERE THE CAR WE INTO THE OCEAN. THE DRIVER CLIMBED OUT OF THE VEHIC AND WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY. LAW ENFORCEMENT IS STILL WORKING TO PULL THE CAR OUT OF THE WATER. ##

What started out as reports of a man shooting into the air ended with a car driving off a cliff.On Tuesday around 3:30 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a man firing a handgun near the town of Davenport, approximately 11 miles northwest of Santa Cruz, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.Shortly afterward, the same man allegedly carjacked a victim and took off in their vehicle, the sheriff's office said.Deputies attempted to stop the car but the man refused to pull over, driving over 100 mph south toward Santa Cruz. When the man reached Santa Cruz, deputies terminated the pursuit for the safety of the community, the sheriff's office said.Moments afterward, the Santa Cruz Police Department located the vehicle driving on West Cliff Drive, a coastal road, where the suspect got into a "solo vehicle traffic collision" and went over the cliff and into the water, police said.The suspect climbed out of the car and up the cliff, where deputies took him into custody. No injuries were reported, the sheriff's office said.
