Bihar records 217 new Covid cases, tally up to 10,205

PATNA: The state health department on Wednesday officially reported six deaths and 217 new Covid-19 cases, taking the total count to 10,205 in Bihar and the death toll to 73. With 7,811 recoveries, the active cases stand at 2,319.
As per the bulletin released by the health department, three deaths were from Patna, taking the toll in the state capital to nine and one death each from Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi and Samastipur.

Of the total deaths reported on Wednesday, three Covid-19 positive patients died at the Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH), which include a 70-year-old resident of Mandiri in Buddha Colony. NMCH epidemiologist-cum-nodal officer (reporting cell) Dr Mukul Kumar Singh said, “She was referred from Patna Medical College and Hospital today and died the same day. She was comorbid and was having breathing problems.”
He further said the 40-year-old Muzaffarpur woman who died on Wednesday was a cancer patient. She was admitted at the hospital on June 25. “Samastipur native, 80, was also comorbid. He was suffering from hypertension. He was admitted a day before,” said Dr Mukul, adding, “It is for the first time that three Covid-19 positive people have died in a day at our hospital.”
State health department secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh stated that 267 people have recovered in the past 24 hours and in the same time period, 331 new cases have been registered. “Recovery rate in Bihar is 77.52%, while the national recovery rate stands at 59.43%. Also the death rate of Covid-19 positive people in Bihar is 0.72%, while the national average death rate stands at 2.97%,” said Lokesh.
He also made an appeal to the people to put on masks and go out only if it is urgent. “Those suffering from other health issues, pregnant women, children and old aged people should remain inside their home,” he added.
As per the health bulletin, cases were reported from 22 districts with maximum 12 cases from Patna, followed by Madhubani which reported 11 cases and Katihar which reported eight cases.
One senior police officer and a police personnel had also tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday. One senior cop of the district had already tested positive on Monday.
