Amazon Ramps Up Customer Support in India
While online shopping has grown to be a norm here in the US, many other countries are just starting to ramp up efforts to make online buying a valuable offering in their nations.
In India, where online sales are projected to grow rapidly over the next few years, there is much opportunity for vendors and merchants to move to the online arena. The India Brand Equity Foundation predicts the ecommerce market in India will grow to $200B by 2026. A large increase from the $ 38.5B market in 2017.
Amazon is anticipating a surge in online shopping traffic over the next 6 months as holiday seasons and shutdowns occur. In light of this, it is making moves to improve customer service offerings for its online shoppers in India and across the globe.
After the global pandemic hit most of the world, demands for online goods began to skyrocket. Amazon quickly added new seasonal roles to its warehousing and distribution teams as a response.
Now, it has announced it is ramping up its temporary and seasonal agents in Hyderabad, Pune, Coimbatore, Noida, Kolkata, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Mangaluru, Indore, Bhopal and Lucknow locations.
The new agent roles, according to a report by The Tribune India, will include support through email, chat, social media and telephone customer support and many of the agent roles will be filled as part of Amazon’s Virtual Customer Service program which allows agents the flexibility to work from home.
To be considered for the role, agents must have a minimum Class XII education and have proficiency in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu or Kannada.
The e-commerce giant has said it plans to continue investing in India creating over 1 million jobs in the area by 2025 and that these temporary agent roles will also likely be converted to permanent roles later based on performance and needs.
