Parts of Mumbai to witness heavy rain in next 24 hours

Several parts of Mumbai witnessed light to moderate rain late on Wednesday night. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the possibility of heavy rain at isolated places in the next 24 hours.

MUMBAI: Several parts of the island city witnessed light to moderate rain late on Wednesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the possibility of heavy downpour at isolated places in the next 24 hours.
In the 24 hours between July 1 and 2 (8.30am-8.30am) rainfall reported by the IMD Colaba observatory was 28.8mm and IMD Santa Cruz observatory was 6.5mm.

"Mumbai received widespread light to moderate rain during (Wednesday) night with few intense spells towards city and suburbs side," said S Hosalikar, deputy director-general (western region), IMD.
The Met department on Wednesday had issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar for the weekend indicating heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places. This is likely to bring some relief for the city which is yet to witness a continuing downpour.
The southwest monsoon officially covered Mumbai on June 14, but so far, there has been only one intense rain spell on June 18.
