HYDERABAD: The Bhadradi Kothagudem district administration has asked people to monitor those entering their villages or towns to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The local people have also been asked to inform the authorities if any person who is supposed to be in home quarantine is found moving outside. The authorities have said cases would be booked against such persons violating norms.
"Duet to lockdown restrictions being removed, the number of cases is increasing but strict measures should be implemented with the assistance of the public," collector M V Reddy told officials.
The collector has also asked that containment areas be strictly monitored.
While there was only a trickle of cases so far, the number of people testing Covid-19 positive has not only increased but the first death has been reported in the district. A 23-year-old woman died of Covid-19 in Yellandu. The woman was also suffering with kidney ailments. She used to travel to Hyderabad earlier for her treatment but because of the lockdown restrictions, she went to a government hospital in Khammam. Her swab samples which were collected at the hospital were sent to MGM Hospital, Warangal and the reports showed that she tested positive. On the advice of MGM doctors, while the woman was being shifted to Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad from Kothagudem, she breathed her last.
Due to the fear of spread of Covid-19, her family stayed away an NGO, Anna Foundation of Khammam, buried the body as per Covid guidelines.
So far, 42 positive cases have been reported in Bhadradri Kothagudem district out of which five recovered and the rest are under treatment apart from one person who died.
