Prayagraj: NCR installs air-to-water generating unit

PRAYAGRAJ: In order to conserve ground water and produce pure drinking water through moisture available in the air, Environment and Housekeeping Management (EnHM) wing of North Central Railway (NCR) has provided air-to water-generators at NCR office Subedarganj and the divisional office of Prayagraj division.
This plug-and-play-type self-contained unit is capable of generating approximately 100 litres of drinking water per day through condensation of moisture available in air.After condensation, it produces safe and mineral-rich drinking water after multiple stages of filtration and UV purification process.
The chief public relation officer (CPRO), NCR, Ajeet Kumar Singh said, “This equipment is highly effective in our climatic conditions as air is moist in all seasons, and thus, water yield is high. The equipment is energy efficient as it consumes only 0.4 units of electricity per litre of pure water at low and normal temperature dispensed through two taps in the unit.”
This unit doesn’t require any plumbing, piping etc. except for normal 220 to 240 volts electricity supply making it suitable for use in any indoor or outdoor conditions, he added.
Based on atmospheric temperature and relative humidity (measurement of moisture availability in air) , this equipment is capable of generating 70 to 100 litres of pure drinking water per day. The water generated through this Air to Water Generator is WHO & BIS compliant and approved by ministry of Jalshakti and mineral rich making it safe for use without any need of further purification etc. and cold and normal temperature supply from the equipment covers v aried need of different users.
This packaged unit is equipped with 50 liters condensed water tank and 20 liters each of purified cold and warm water tank which allows condensation and storage of atmospheric water continuously and meets demand of drinking water during peak hours. State of the art temperature and relative humidity controller provided on the equipment panel allows climate control to meet varied indoor and outdoor condition besides getting dry air as by-product in indoor conditions for increased level of comfort to occupant in location like offices etc .
On Friday, General Manager NCR, and Northern Railway (NR), Rajiv Chaudhry inspected the equipment at NCR headquarter and said that it can be customised to have bigger storage tank and can be provided at wayside stations and small colonies having seasonal water crisis.
Besides, NCR has taken many initiatives towards ground water conservation including recycling of 15.4 crores liters water annually through water recycling plant of 25 lakh liters per day installed capacity, water audit of 17 stations to bring economy in usage, digging of six water ponds of total 428 Lakhs liters capacity in Jhansi – Bina section etc. With installation of 50000 liters water recycling plant HQ office of NCR has already become the first unit to achieve “Zero Discharge Unit”. Nine rain water harvesting plants have also been commissioned last year and NCR has is working on ambitious plan of additional 165 rooftop rain water conservation projects, informed Singh.
