SECUNDERABAD: While the ruling party members of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) are claiming the assurance given by the state government to clear Rs 80 crore dues as a major victory, their opponents are dubbing it as an election stunt.
On Friday, SCB vice-president J Rama Krishna told the media that government’s assurance to clear the long pending dues is a major achievement for his members.
“Due to the relentless efforts of our members, officials and ministers the state government decided to clear the dues,” Rama Krishna said, adding that former board members are levelling baseless allegations against TRS party.
“Rather than appreciating government’s decision, former board members are criticising it. Their allegations are baseless and meaningless,” Ramakrishna added.
However, T Satish Gupta, a social worker said that the state government is clearing the dues only to impress the voters ahead of the SCB elections.
“Why the government has agreed to clear the dues now. What is it doing all these years. Why this move suddenly before the elections? The state government is bound to allocate funds for the SCB as per the recommendations of the 15th finance commission. Cantonments now come under Urban Local Bodies (ULB) and are entitled to receive funds” Gupta said.
Former SCB vice-president B Narmada said, “As they have done nothing for the last five years, the SCB elected members and the vice-president are finding it difficult to face the voters. That’s why they are claiming government’s decision to clear dues as a major victory.”
Meanwhile, the board members invited minister for animal husbandry, Talasani Srinivas Yadav to visit the SCB.
