"Grievances of India-Bangladesh border villagers ‘misconstrued and misrepresented"

Shillong, Jul 3 (UNI) The Meghalaya police on Friday claimed that the headmen and secretary of three villages along the India-Bangladesh border have said that their grievances were “misconstrued and misrepresented” in the media, where it was reported that they wanted to be part of Bangladesh due to hardship faced by them for non-construction of a road.
A meeting was held in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills on Friday, which was also attended by the superintendent of police and representatives of Lahalein, Huroi and Hingaria villages in connection with “tidings which appeared in various news editions, stating that the border villages” want to be part of Bangladesh, a police statement on Friday said.
“In the meeting the headmen and secretary of the three villages including the spokesperson Kynjaimon Amse informed that they only wanted to express the hardships that they faced in terms of road connectivity, communication and the lack of medical facilities in their villages apart from others, however, their grievances were misconstrued and misrepresented,” Assistant Inspector General of Police (A), Meghalaya, G.K. Iangrai stated in a statement.
