NEW DELHI: A man who targeted a
Dwarka resident to extort money and fired at him later was arrested, police said.
The accused, Ashwani, was earlier arrested in 2015 on charges of killing his wife. He managed to get one week parole and was out of jail recently.
The incident happened on June 25, when Ashwani, who was out of cash, decided to extort a trader from the neighbourhood.
He was cornered by the residents, following which he fired at them and escaped.
"We found that Ashwani had got a seven-day parole on March 12, but he never returned to jail," said Anto Alphonse, DCP (Dwarka).
Based on technical investigation, the cops raided Ashwani's possible hiding places, but he managed to slip. On July 1, the cops were alerted that he would come to Railway Crossing, Shahbaad Mohammadpur around 8.30pm from where he was arrested.
