NEW DELHI: A man was killed and his friend was injured after a speeding truck rammed their car on Outer Ring Road near Wazirabad-Gopalpur crossing in north Delhi.
The stretch often sees drivers heading towards Signature Bridge or Burari speed up due to lack of monitoring.
Police say that the incident happened in the wee hours of Thursday when the two youths, Ankur Rawat (19) and his friend Shubham, had stopped by the side of the road to relieve themselves.
Shubham told police that a Tata 207 truck coming from the Majnu Ka Tilla side hit his car from behind. The driver then lost control of the truck as it rode up the footpath and hit Rawat. The teen was dragged along with the truck for a few metres after which the vehicle fell into a ditch.
Shubham along with some locals managed to pull out the driver and Rawat from the ditch. They were taken to a hospital where Rawat was declared dead.
Both the youths were residents of Uttam Nagar and were heading home in Shubham's car when the incident took place. The truck driver would be arrested once he recuperates. Police suspect that he was drunk during the incident.
