NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Friday busted a racket involving adulterated salt that was being sold under the name of a well-known brand. More than 3,000kg of the salt was found lying in a factory ready for transportation. Police say that the miscreants were using different chemicals to produce it since essential items have been in high demand after the lockdown.
DCP (outer north) Gaurav Sharma said that a police team had received information about the salt being sold from a godown at the Pralhadpur Bangar village in outer Delhi.
The owner, identified as Surajmal Singal, was arrested.
Singal told the cops that the salt was being manufactured and packed at a factory in Karala. The factory was raided, and police arrested one Govind, who ran the unit. Police have invoked sections of the Copyright Act against Govind and Singal but might invoke further sections of the Indian Penal Code for selling adulterated material.
