Thane reports 420 new Covid cases, 17 deaths; tally at 9,950, toll rises to 350

Even as the administration is desperately chalking out measures to clamp down the infection here, the numbers climbed up by 420 cases, the highest ever for the city, to touch 9,950 while 17 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, Friday, taking the virus toll to 350.

THANE: Even as the administration is desperately chalking out measures to clamp down Covid infection, the numbers climbed up by 420 cases, the highest ever for the city, to touch 9,950 while 17 deaths were reported on Friday, taking the toll to 350.
As many as 35 Thane constables and a paediatrician attached with a government hospital tested positive for Covid-19, informed authorities.

A senior police officer, referring to the daily status report prepared by the department informed, 35 constables from across various units and police stations under the Thane commissionerate have been tested positive.
"Nearly 35 constables detected positive to the virus and are admitted to various facilities for treatment in Thane. We are sanitising our police stations and facilities in addition to equipping our staff with protection gears like face shields, masks, sanitisers, especially those who are out on the field. We have restricted entry of visitors to the headquarters and are attending them at a separate facility," informed Balasaheb Patil, deputy police commissioner, special branch, Thane.
Records show that nearly 593 police staff, including 534 constables and 59 officials, tested positive till date, of which 390 have been discharged and 200 are admitted while three have succumbed.
Meanwhile, a female resident doctor working in the paediatric ward of a government hospital also tested positive, informed official's colleague. “The doctor could have possibly picked up the infection through a young asymptomatic patient," said the colleague.
