LMC for junking contract with Chinese subsidiary Ecogreen

LUCKNOW: Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia will write to the urban development department for cancellation of the contract of Ecogreen Energy, subsidiary of a Chinese company, which is engaged in garbage disposal work in the city.
"The executive committee of Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has passed a unanimous proposal on Thursday in which it requested me to write to the urban development department for cancellation Ecogreen Energy's contract in view of Sino-India standoff," Bhatia told TOI.
Ecogreen Energy is a subsidiary of China Jinjiang Environment Holding Company Limited and has been setup for its international business operations.
In India, it has been hired for waste management in Gurugram, Faridabad, Lucknow and Gwalior.
The company was hired in 2014 after the cancellation of Jyoti Envirotech's contract following complaints about poor garbage collection. However, Ecogreen too could not cover the entire city under door-to-door garbage collection programme.
As a result, following repeated complaints by corporators, LMC gave warnings to the company and stopped payment. The company said that it could not expand services due to delay in payments.
In January this year, urban development department intervened in the matter and said it would make payments on LMC's evaluation report.
However, when the work remained unsatisfactory, LMC gave 45 days to the company in February to ensure 100% garbage collection in the city but the target could not be achieved. As per LMC records, Ecogreen is covering around 3 lakh out of 5.48 lakh households in the city.
Project manager, Ecogreen, Abhishek Singh was not available for comments.
