Escapee from Covid hosp who tested +ve nabbed in Gadag
Hubballi: A man who tested positive for the novel coronavirus, who escaped from KIMS Covid hospital on Friday, was nabbed by the police at Gadag-Betgeri on Saturday.
Police commissioner R Dileep said that the accused was traced in Gadag-Betgeri, which is his native place, with the help of Gadag police. “He was arrested on charges of theft last Tuesday, and subsequently tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
He was admitted to KIMS. Now, we are initiating action against two constables who were deployed at KIMS Covid hospital when the accused escaped,” he added.
Meanwhile, KIMS director Dr Ramalingappa Atnaratani confirmed that the patient has been re-admitted to the isolation ward. “We have instructed our staff to keep a strict vigil on such patients. We have also sought cooperation from the police in this regard,” he added.
It’s learnt that the accused patient travelled by a private vehicle from Hubballi to Gadag, and wandered there till Saturday morning. His escape caused panic among citizens in both cities. The district administration is said to be struggling to get details of his travel history.
