SECUNDERABAD: Animal husbandry minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Saturday said the state government was planning on extending grants to SCB along the lines of financial support given to urban local bodies (ULBs). He was speaking at a joint media conference with SCB ward members when he hinted about the proposal.
“Currently, the state government extends financial support to ULBs through matching grants.
On similar lines, we will support SCB as well. The plan will be discussed soon with MA&UD minister KT Rama Rao.
Yadav said the Cantonment board’s issues would be taken up during the ensuing Parliament sessions by TRS Lok Sabha MPs. “Efforts will be made to release pending service charges of nearly Rs 600 crore, which the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has to pay the SCB,” he assured. Talasani has suggested that SCB chief executive officer, B Ajith Reddy, work on efforts to improve revenue through resources available in the Cantonment to overcome financial crisis. “The chief executive officer of the Cantonment has to carry out inspections at least four days a week to improve revenue and be aware of the status of civic issues,” he pointed out. Labour minister Ch Malla Reddy, said, “Thirty years ago, the Cantonment’s residents used to get all facilities similar to those under GHMC, but now the military area gets more facilities than civil areas in the Contonment.” SCB chief executive officer, B Ajith Reddy said that both ministers were proactively resolving Cantonment area issues.
