Four Maoists killed in Odisha's Kandhamal district

At least four Maoists were killed in an exchange of fires between the security forces with the ultras at Sirla jungle under Kandhamal district’s Tumudibandh police station limits on Sunday morning. Police said that an equal number of ultras were also injured in the gun battle.

BERHAMPUR: At least four Maoists were killed in an exchange of fires between the security forces with the ultras at Sirla jungle under Kandhamal district’s Tumudibandh police station limits on Sunday morning. Police said that an equal number of ultras were also injured in the gun battle.
Number of firearms and other Maoist items were seized from the spot.
The search operation was going on in the area.
Acting on a tip-off regarding a Maoist camp held in the reserve forest areas, the security forces raided the spot in the early hours of the morning. An exchange of fire broke out between the Maoists and the jawans, in which the Maoists sustained injuries and bullet.
The deceased Maoists have been identified as members of KKBN (Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Nayagarh) division. The Odisha government had announced prize money on the deceased Maoists.
Arms and ammunition, including three license rifles, two country-made pistols and a huge cache of weapons have been seized from the site of the encounter. Combing operation in the area has been intensified, a source said.
Last week, the security forces had busted a Maoist camp in a reserve jungle in Phiringia police station limits. Though they had seized several items belonging to the ultra, but the left wing extremists had managed to flee from the spot.
